What is transflective screen?

According to the "lighting mode", general screens are divided into :reflective type, fully transmissive type and transflective type.                                                                 

Reflective screen —— there is a reflector on the back of the screen to provide light source for reading under sunlight and lights.

Advantages: excellent performance under strong light sources such as outdoor sunshine.

Disadvantages: unable to see or read under weak light or no light.                                                                                                                               

Fully transmissive screen - there is no reflector on the back of the screen, the backlight provides light source.                                                                                              

Advantages: excellent reading ability in weak light and no light.                                                                                                                 

Disadvantages: the backlight brightness is seriously insufficient in outdoor sunlight. Just relying on improving the brightness of the backlight will rapidly lose power, and the display effect is not ideal.

Transflective screen - It replace the reflector on the back of the reflective screen with a mirror reflective film. The reflective film is a mirror when viewed from the front, and transparent glass when viewed from the back. It add transparent backlight, It can be said that transflective screen is a hybrid of reflective screen and full transmissive screen. It combines the advantages of both, with excellent reading ability of reflective screen in outdoor sunlight and excellent reading ability of fully transmissive screen in weak light and no light.

The characteristics of transflective screen: the backlight brightness automatically adapts to the outdoor environment. The backlight (sunlight) reflected by the reflective film is as strong as the outdoor sunlight. No matter how strong the brightness of outdoor sunlight is, the stronger the ambient light is, the stronger the reflected backlight is. It completely not rely on additional backlight lighting equipment outdoors. So it saves a lot of power than the full tranmissive screen, and the reading effect is much better outdoors.

This technology is used in high-end mobile phones, outdoor three defense mobile phones, outdoor handheld GPS, handheld computers, UMPC, MID,  high-end tablets and other high-end products of some large foreign brands, such as  Apple's iPhone,  iTouch, iPad, high-end series of Nokia mobile phones, Blackberries, handheld computers of HP and Dopod, Meizu M9 mobile phones, Gaoming and Magellan GPS and so on.
